This article is for homeowners, renovation crews, and businesses in Western Sydney — Penrith, Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, and Blacktown — who want to understand what drives skip bin hire cost before calling for a quote.
Skip bin hire cost in our area depends on bin size, waste type, hire period, and where the bin needs to go. There’s no single flat price because every job is different — but we can run you through the numbers in about 60 seconds. Call us on 02 4754 4740.
Here’s what actually moves the price.

What Affects Skip Bin Hire Cost?
Bin Size
The bigger the bin, the higher the hire cost. We offer a range of sizes suited to different jobs, from small bins for bathroom or kitchen clear-outs through to large bins for full house cleanouts and commercial demolition. Getting the size right matters: too small and you’re paying for a second pickup; too large and you’re paying for capacity you don’t use.
Our bin size guide walks through the most common scenarios, but a quick call usually gets the answer faster.
Waste Type
What goes in the bin affects the cost. General mixed waste — household rubbish, renovation materials, furniture, garden clippings, is straightforward. Some materials attract surcharges because they need separate handling:
- Tyres — $25 each. Tyres are banned from general landfill in NSW under EPA waste regulations, and must be routed to licensed recyclers via Tyre Stewardship Australia‘s national scheme. We accept them with a surcharge. They go on top of the bin, not inside it.
- Mattresses — $80 each. Over 1.8 million mattresses are discarded in Australia each year. Most are 85–90% recyclable when properly dismantled — steel springs, foam, timber, and fabric each go to separate streams. They go on top of the bin, not inside it.
Some materials can’t go in a skip bin at all — see below.
Hire Period
Standard skip hire runs 4 days. After that, additional days are $20 each.

Placement — Your Property vs. the Street
Placing a skip on your own driveway or property is usually straightforward.
If you need it on a the nature strip, public road or footpath, you may need a council permit first.
Permit requirements vary across our service area:
- Penrith City Council — permit required for street placement
- Blue Mountains City Council — permit required; check their website for processing times
- Hawkesbury City Council — permit required for public road placement
- Blacktown City Council — permit required; fee and process varies
Ask when you book and we’ll point you in the right direction for your area.
Your Location in Our Service Area
We deliver across Penrith, Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Blacktown, and surrounding suburbs. Delivery costs can vary slightly for more remote locations, particularly in the upper Blue Mountains and outer Hawkesbury. If you’re not sure we cover your area, give us a call.
What We Can’t Take — and What to Do About It
Short answer: A handful of materials can’t go in a regular skip. Most have a practical alternative, asbestos included.
Items we don’t accept inside a regular skip bin:
- Liquid waste (paint, oils, chemicals)
- Gas bottles and fire extinguishers
- Putrescible waste (food scraps, nappies, pet waste)
- Asbestos, cement sheeting, and insulation in a regular skip
Got Asbestos?
We can help, but the process is specific. You need a licensed asbestos removalist to safely wrap it first, then we take it in our Ezi-bags. Call us on 02 4754 4740 and we’ll walk you through it step by step.
Many skip bin operators won’t touch asbestos at all. We do, once it’s been properly wrapped by a licensed professional.
Ezi-Bags for Smaller or Specific Loads
If your load is small, or you have a specific material that needs its own handling stream (like wrapped asbestos cement sheeting), our Ezi-bags are a good alternative to a full skip. Ask about this option when you book.

When a Skip Bin Isn’t the Right Call
This article isn’t for you if:
- You’re disposing of a single mattress — Soft Landing offers mattress recycling, and many retailers offer take-back when delivering a new one
- You have a small amount of green waste that fits in your council bin
- You’re comparing skip bins vs. skip bags — our Skip Bags vs Skip Bins guide covers that comparison directly
For most residential renovations, full cleanouts, and construction waste, a skip is the most practical and cost-effective option. But we’d rather match you to the right tool for the job.
Why Very Cheap Quotes Sometimes Aren’t Worth It
Tyres and mattresses in the wrong waste stream end up in landfill, which breaches NSW EPA regulations. That’s exactly why responsible operators charge a surcharge on these items. If a competitor’s quote is significantly lower than others, it’s worth asking how they’re handling the regulated materials.
We dispose of all waste streams in line with NSW EPA waste requirements.
How to Get an Accurate Quote
Call 02 4754 4740 (Monday–Saturday, 7am–7pm) or book at ezibin.com.au. We’ll ask three things:
- What are you getting rid of? (type and rough volume)
- Where does the bin need to go? (your property or the street)
- How long do you need it?
That’s usually enough for a firm quote. What you’re quoted is what you pay — no hidden extras.
Frequently Asked Questions: Skip Bin Hire Cost
How much does skip bin hire cost in Western Sydney?
Skip bin hire cost depends on bin size, waste type, hire period, and your location — so there’s no flat rate that covers every job. Call Ezi-Bin on 02 4754 4740 for a quote based on your specific situation. Most quotes take under a minute.
Does it cost extra to put a skip bin on the street?
You’ll likely need a council permit to place a bin on a nature strip or public road, and permit fees vary across Penrith, Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, and Blacktown. Let us know when you book and we’ll advise on next steps. The permit is your responsibility to organise, but we can point you in the right direction.
Can I put asbestos in a skip bin?
Not in a regular skip — but Ezi-Bin can still take it. You need a licensed asbestos removalist to safely wrap it first. Once it’s wrapped, we take it via our Ezi-bag service. Call 02 4754 4740 and we’ll walk you through the process.
Why do mattresses and tyres cost extra?
Mattresses ($80 each) and tyres ($25 each) need to go to separate recycling streams under NSW EPA requirements — they can’t go into general landfill. They must be placed on top of the bin, not inside it, so we can route them to the right facility.
What’s the cheapest way to hire a skip bin?
Choose the right bin size for your job — not too big, not too small. Stick within the standard hire period and separate out any surcharge items (tyres, mattresses) before the bin arrives if you can. Call us and we’ll match you to the most cost-effective option for your load.
Is skip bin hire cheaper than a rubbish removal service?
For medium-to-large loads, skip hire is typically more cost-effective because you fill it in your own time — no waiting for a crew. For small, awkward loads (one heavy item up a flight of stairs, for example), a removal service may make more sense. Our Skip Bags vs Skip Bins guide walks through the comparison.
